Vince Young faces the prospect of missing his first football game ever because of injury. And VY is defying assumptions that he will force himself into the lineup against the Houston Texans on Sunday. Here’s Vince’s response to reporters’ questions about playing the Texans:
“It is getting on my nerves, man, because y’all be pumping it up for some reason and it is not that crucial,” Young said. “It is a regular game. … It is not all about Vince Young going against the Texans and I am tired of hearing that.”
Perhaps Vince is showing maturity that his critics say is lacking. It sounds as if Young is putting his team first and self-adulation second. If he’s hurt, the wise thing to do is to sit out this game, rest his strained quadriceps and give Kerry Collins a chance to play.
Of course, there’s still a few days left till kickoff.
