Chris Johnson gained 134 yards against a Seahawks defense that knew he would be the focal point of the offense, scored twice, and eclipsed 2000 yards rushing on the season. Had fullback Ahmard Hall not been penalized for holding on a 62-yard run, CJ may have had a real chance to break Eric Dickerson’s single season rushing mark of 2,105 yards.
Rookie linebacker Gerald McRath sealed the win with a leaping interception of a Matt Hasselbeck pass late in the fourth quarter. McRath was savvy enough to immediately kneel down after the catch.
More importantly, the Titans won their eighth game of the 2009 season and became the first team to ever begin a season 0-6 and rebound to finish .500.
I suspected that Tennessee would finish 8-8, but I did not expect them to lose all six games at the beginning of the year. I also did not expect Vince Young to play much this season, but I’m more than happy to have watched him progress and contribute to his team’s 8-2 finish.
In the next few days, we will see if Jeff Fisher remains the team’s head coach. On January 31, we will watch Chris Johnson play as the Titans’ sole representative in the Pro Bowl Game. Tennessee’s management should offer CJ a new contract. He”s earned it.
Vince Young is due a $4.25 million roster bonus in March. He’s earned it.
