De La Soul

I saw this pioneering hip hop group in concert last week. Here’s a review of the show.

I didn’t quite know what to make of them when they released Three Feet High And Rising in the late 80s, but I loved the single “Me, Myself, and I”. I did buy their second album, De La Soul Is Dead. Eventually, my interest in De La Soul died.

I love it when I “discover” a group that’s been around a long time. I checked out a copy of Stakes Is High from a public library last year, and my interest was rekindled. I bought Three Feet High for the first time last week.

I have a love-hate with hip hop. I get discouraged because the hardcore, gangsta rappers gets most of the publicity these days (though I like some of it). Then a group like Blackalicious comes along and I fall in love all over again.
