Home Again (song)

“Just when I thought that we were through
I found my way right back to you
I can’t change what happened in the past
And won’t promise this time it’ll last”

The title cut from the album is a statement song, and what an honest statement it makes.

“Home Again” is emotional, serious and grand in scope. Jam and Lewis construct a lush, dramatic soundscape as the backdrop for New Edition as they call for respect and ponder their uncertain future. The singers are backed by an arrangement featuring a string section and nice piano touches.

“Home Again” is the yin which balances the yang of “Oh Yeah, It Feels So Good”. Similar to “Competition” on Heart Break, it hints at being about a romantic relationship but is really about NE.

Isn’t a reunion supposed to be a happy occasion?

Despite Mike’s earnest plea to the fellas to stay united, the supergroup didn’t stay together. According to reports, the tour was uneven and relationships were tense.

Bobby’s verse was prophetic. In 1997 he announced that he’d left the group permanently.

This song is great because of the music and the universal lyrics. Anyone in a family, an intimate relationship, or a group can relate to this song. I especially enjoy Bobby’s heartfelt singing and Johnny’s swooping background vocals.
