I was sitting at my home computer one evening last month and did a Google search for info on the South By Southwest Film Festival. I found a site called SXSWbaby! I read the “message board” on race and cyberspace. As I read the posts I kept seeing the word “blog”. I asked myself, “What the hell is a blog?”
I went to Google (where else?) and typed in “blog”. I discovered a new world, an underground movement of sorts. I spent a lot of time reading content at Microcontent News. I was impressed with John Hiler’s vision and passion for this phenomenon. I sensed there was more to blogging than pure narcissism.
I spent the next few evenings looking at blogging tools: Xanga, Blogger, Conversant, Greymatter, Movable Type and others. I quidkly ruled out Xanga. Blogger seemed to be the tool of choice, but I consider myself to be a maverick, so I looked for a maverick tool. I almost chose Conversant but I had a few difficulties changing my account settings. Movable Type is the Mercedes of blogging tools, but I’m just learning to drive. Blogger, despite it’s flaws, is fast, easy and free. Go Blogger.
