“Now the time is come
And we have just begun
We’re comin’ loud and clear
N.E.’s back and in your ear”
Synopsis
In Dave Marsh’s The Heart of Rock and Soul (a great book and part of the inspiration behind this website), Marsh says the Four Tops’ “It’s The Same Old Song” is basically a redo of the group’s previous hit “I Can’t Help Myself (Sugar Pie Honey Bunch).” Marsh thinks “It’s The Same Old Song” is the better of the two songs.
Jam and Lewis make a grand statement with “Oh Yeah, It Feels So Good” which is an expanded revision of “Where It All Started”. It creates the concert feeling heard on Heart Break and tells the world to “forget all the other sounds” because NE is back in the house.
Commentary
This is one of my favorite feel-good songs (no pun intended). It puts you in a good mood and makes a good mood even better. It’s the type of song that makes you want to drop the top on your convertible (if you have one) and take a relaxing ride.
Once again, Jam and Lewis demonstrate their ability to create an atmosphere and to allow the personality of the artists to shine through the record.
Sonically, there’s a lot going on here (listen to it with headphones). I like when Ron says “float on” early in the song (how many of you remember that classic hit?).
